Statistics and Econometrics (2nd Ed.) by Dominick Salvatore Description
This is an excellent book for review or as a supplement to a traditional, mathematically intensive econometrics text. The author writes in a clear way that makes complex topics simple to grasp. He liberally employs instructive graphs and figures, and he adds several examples to further illustrate his remarks. This book would be the first place I’d look for an explanation if I came upon an econometric notion or practice that simply defied comprehension. The author has the gift of succinctness: he communicates a lot of important things in a few words, and the words he uses are just appropriate to assist the reader grasp what’s going on.
The Schaum’s Outlines have rescued me several times, especially as someone who is not very academically minded yet is enrolled in a math-intensive graduate program (econ Phd). This book is no exception. Explanations of statistical and econometric materials, formulae, concepts, and applications that are clear and succinct. This cannot be used in place of an econometrics course, but it is an excellent supplement.
